Plusoptix was founded in Nuremberg in 2001. Plusoptix develops and manufactures handheld autorefractometers. What is special and unique worldwide is the binocular refraction measurement process and the measurement of refracion from one meter away. The special application area for infants and children, as well as for uncooperatuve patients resulted from this.
The essential advantages of binocular refraction measurement, relative to the usual monocular refraction measurement generally in use today, are obvious: no device myopia, refravtive differences in sphere and cylinder are easily measured even in eyes untreated with dilating drops, corneal reflex analysis (symmetrical or asymmetrical), as well as pupil diameter for both eyes and pupil distance.
Plusoptix has acquired the know-how and patents from the Tübingen University Eye Clinic. Here we would like to especially thank Prof. Dr. Frank Schaeffel ¹) for professional consultation while implementing his know-how in the development of our devices (5 th generation).
